In the span of one week, the country saw a string of crimes motivated by hatred and partisanship: the killing of two black senior citizens at a grocery store in Kentucky, the attempted mail bombing of 12 prominent Democrats and CNN, and the killing of 11 worshippers at the Tree of Life Congregation synagogue in Pittsburgh.
