Baldwin, Along With Other Democrats, Pushes For Rich To Pay More In Taxes

Wisconsin U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin is reintroducing a bill along with other Senate Democrats that would make millionaires pay more in taxes.

Baldwin said the nation’s tax code benefits wealthy Americans — something that needs to change.

“It’s wrong for us to have a tax code and tax system where people who make over a million or $2 million a year pay at a lower rate than hard-working middle-class Americans,” she said.

Baldwin said top earners should pay at least 30 percent in taxes.

Republican Wisconsin U.S. Senator Ron Johnson said the nation has a progressive tax rate system.

“We need a more competitive tax system,” said Johnson. “The last thing we want to do is be disincentivizing people from putting their capital to work in our economy.”

Baldwin said top earners need to contribute their fair share ensure the economy remains strong by reinvesting those dollars into roads, research and education. Since 2012, similar bills have been introduced but have not passed the House or Senate.
