2 dead after small plane crashes in Waukesha neighborhood

Plane was in the air about 20 minutes before crash

A small airplane carrying two people crashed in a residential neighborhood in the Village of Waukesha Tuesday morning killing both the pilot and the passenger, according to the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office.

The single-engine Glastar plane left Timmeman Airport in Milwaukee County at 9:18 a.m. and was headed to a regional airport in Salina, Kansas, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The plane was last seen by the FAA at 9:29 a.m. and crashed into a residential area at 9:35 a.m. about 22 miles into its trip.

The Waukesha County Communications Center received phone calls from people living in the Village of Vernon and Village of Waukesha reporting a loud noise and possible debris in the area.

Sheriff’s deputies located the airplane in a wooded area south of Redwing Drive in the Village of Waukesha, according to the Sheriff’s office. No other individuals were near the scene.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will continue to investigate the cause of the crash.

The plane is registered to a single individual. WPR is not releasing their name at this time.

The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office is expected to make a statement later Tuesday.

Around 11 a.m., David Eicher, editor of Astronomy Magazine, tweeted a picture of the crash site saying, “Well this is a very sad and dark day in Waukesha. A small plane has crashed into our neighborhood.”
