The U.S. Coast Guard rescued three people Thursday after a single-engine aircraft crashed in Lake Michigan 20 miles off the coast of Oak Creek.

At 12:17 p.m. Thursday a Cirrus SR22 aircraft departed Milwaukee for Michigan. Officials with Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport said a problem caused the flight to end up in Lake Michigan about 20 miles east of Oak Creek’s Bender Park.

The U.S. Coast Guard and other rescue and dive teams responded to the incident at about 12:45 p.m.

The three people were reportedly undergoing medical evaluations, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
