Wisconsin Running Community Reacts To Boston Attacks

The director of the Wisconsin Marathon says the bombing at the Boston Marathon today hits home to a close racing community.

Wisconsin Marathon Director Jonathan Cain has many friends at the Boston Marathon and he says it appears none were hurt by the explosions.

“Different people that are out there and that have numbers for them are posting, ‘Hey, I heard from Matt. Hey, I heard from Grace. I haven’t heard from Lisa. I’ve heard from this and this and this.’ So they’re keeping tabs on everybody that way.

Cain says they are assessing the situation and not sure if security needs to change for their May 4 race.

“Probably not. Obviously, that’s something we’ll have to talk with the police department about. That’s too early to say on that. Obviously, we’ve got to keep our wits about us.”

Cain says 3,300 runners are expected for the Wisconsin Marathon in Kenosha. 444 runners from Wisconsin were registered to run in this year’s Boston Marathon.

Meanwhile, Duluth’s Grandma’s Marathon, the 14th largest in the country, has released a statement saying it will review its security measures and protocols for its race in June.
