Authorities Declare Highway Impassable, Advise Alternate Routes

By

The Ashland County Sheriff’s Office released a statement that U.S. Highway 2 is “impassable.” The stretch of highway between State Highway 13 in the Town of Eileen and state Highway 112 in the city of Ashland has been closed due to extreme weather conditions.

Drivers are advised to use state Highway 137 as alternate route. The stretch of U.S. 2 is likely to remain closed until 7 a.m. on Tuesday, according to the Bayfield County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.

The region is experiencing a mix of snow and freezing drizzle that’s falling along the shores of Lake Superior and south on I-35, according to the National Weather Service office in Duluth.
