Hazardous driving conditions snarled traffic all across Wisconsin on Tuesday, and caused a series of pile-ups that briefly closed the westbound lanes of Interstate 94 near Eau Claire.
The westbound lanes of I-94 were closed for hours following chain reaction crashes that involved more than a dozen tractor-trailers, according to Lt. Jeff Lorentz of the Wisconsin State Patrol in Eau Claire.
“There have been several pile-ups near Osseo today,” said Lorentz. “We have probably removed over 20 semis out of that area that have crashed so far since noon today.”

Lorentz said traffic was backed up for about three miles, with cars at a standstill for two hours.
The lanes were re-opened at around 4 p.m. Authorities are asking people not to travel during the winter storm unless they have to.
