Passengers leaving the Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee can now use their smartphone to hail an Uber or Lyft driver instead of using a taxi or shuttle service.
The Milwaukee airport has begun a three-month trial with the popular ridesharing services where drivers pay a $3 surcharge to the airport for each rider they pick up. Taxi drivers have to get special airport pick-up permits.
Mitchell International Airport joins the Dane County Regional Airport, which officially began allowing ridesharing companies to pick up passengers in January. Thomas Miller, director of the Austin Straubel International Airport in Green Bay, said his airport may soon be joining that list, too.

“I think it’s inevitable that the rideshare services will eventually make their way into Green Bay and we’re just trying to be a little bit ahead of the process,” he said.
Uber is available in eight Wisconsin cities: Madison, Milwaukee, Waukesha, Kenosha, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin Dells and Racine. Lyft is only available in Madison and Milwaukee.
