Milwaukee’s General Mitchell International Airport is seeing its highest level of passenger traffic in four years.

More than 2.85 million passengers flew out of Mitchell from January to October. That’s a 3 percent jump in the number of travelers compared to the same period in 2015.

New flights are one factor driving the increase, airport spokesman Ryan McAdams said.

“We’re continuing to add new air service – Frontier Airlines just launched their non-stop service to Phoenix yesterday,” McAdams said Thursday. “We continue to see growth here at Milwaukee.”

Mitchell Airport is on pace to have the highest yearly number of fliers since 2012.

Mergers and cutbacks in the airline industry led to job losses, canceled routes and a dropoff in passenger traffic out of Milwaukee.
