Air Date:
Heard On University Of The Air

Some of the longest-lasting impressions of a war are the images it evokes in art. For World War II, there’s the photo of the raising of the flag at Iwo Jima. For the Spanish Civil War, it might be Picasso’s painting Guernica. As we continue to observe the centennial of the War to Make the World “Safe for Democracy,” what are the images of World War I that stand out? UW-Oshkosh professor Marguerite Helmers takes us through World War I as it appears in art.
