Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24, 2022, local immigrants from the Eastern European nation spoke with “Simply Superior” host Robin Washington about the war’s impact on their lives and family members, many in direct line of fire. They return to update their personal connections in the conflict that few expected to last more than a few months, let alone a year, with no clear end yet in sight.

Plus, at the war’s start, University of Wisconsin-Superior Prof. Michael Waxman wondered what he could do to aid the people of Ukraine and looked to what he does best: teaching. That led to Tutoring Without Borders, which began with his online one-and-one lessons and has now grown to 1,000 tutors worldwide mentoring 3,000 Ukrainian students. Waxman speaks with Washington on the program’s evolution.
