On the upper left is Choreographer Adam McKinney, directing the Minnesota Ballet in Duluth during a rehearsal of his ballet Home Ablating Downstream. The dancers are on the upper right. On the lower right, Bob King a.k.a. “Astro Bob” poses with one of his telescopes. The photograph on the lower left is of a weather balloon Mr. King photographed over the Twin Ports. Photographs are, in the same order, courtesy of the Minnesota Ballet and Bob King.

With an international crisis raging over the suspected Chinese spy balloon (or weather balloon, to hear that country’s version of it), it’s probably a good idea to pay attention to what’s in the sky. But as Bob King sees it, it always is. Author of the popular AstroBob blog as well as several books on amateur astronomy, King joins “Simply Superior” host Robin Washington to explain what to look for in our region’s night skies this winter, and celestial highlights (pun intended) for the coming year.

Also, the Twin Ports-based Minnesota Ballet performs the world premiere of “Home Ablating Downstream” by Milwaukee-born-and-bred Adam McKinney, the newly named artistic director of the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre. McKinney and his Minnesota Ballet counterpart, Karl von Rabenau, speak with Washington about the premiere, which debuts in the Ballet’s newly repurposed performance space at the Duluth Depot.
