One of the most frequent destinations (if not the most) for Twin Ports travelers is the Twin Cities, first connected by rail more than 150 years ago. But the only trains traveling the route today carry freight, not people. A 20-year effort to bring back passenger rail as the Northern Lights Express is gaining momentum, with Minnesota lawmakers looking favorably at matching federal funding for the shovel-ready project. Train booster Ken Buehler speaks with “Simply Superior” host Robin Washington about the effort, and why Superior is a major part of the route.

Also, Duluth-based singer-songwriter Gavin St. Clair titled his first album “Goodbye,” but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t planning on a second. He joins Washington to share from his latest mix of nostalgic acoustic love songs mixed with Americana and pop ahead of a performance this weekend at Wussow’s Concert Cafe in Duluth
