After a rainy Christmas and unusually mild December — it was officially the warmest ever December in Duluth — the Twin Ports finally got a blast of sub-zero temperatures this week. Yet that taste of what’s usually normal for the area may be fleeting. There’s still little snow, forcing the cancellation of the 2024 John Beargrease Marathon and threatening the American Birkebeiner in late February. Helping to make sense of the weather is Fox 21 TV meteorologist Rusty Mehlberg, who joins “Simply Superior” host Robin Washington at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19, with a forecast and predictions.

Also, singer-songwriter Jason Streitz and his band J Streitz and the Long Odds were a Twin Cities mainstay before he and his wife left to operate a pottery studio in Shell Lake. But by no means has he stopped performing. The Twin Ports are now his main venue, and he performs this week in Duluth and Superior. Steitz shares his music, and also a bit about the pottery studio.
