The Twin Ports biggest musical event of the year kicks off this Sunday, April 28, with 160 performers appearing at 35 venues in Duluth and Superior over the next week. But there’s no need to wait — the celebration starts early with five musicians appearing on WPR’s “Simply Superior” at 10 a.m. Friday, April 26.

Joining host Robin Washington are Twin Ports mainstays Breanne Tepler, Jason Wussow, Skarlett Woods, John Agacki and Shane Nelson, each offering one of their latest songs along with their most memorable Homegrown moments over the festival’s 26 years.

Also, the town of LaPointe on Madeline Island finalized its purchase of the family-run ferry service last month, linking it to the Wisconsin mainland. Washington revisits a ferry ride from last summer and chat with one of its captains about the importance of this vital lifeline, which makes nearly 6,000 crossings per year.
