The largest island in Lake Superior, Isle Royale has no permanent human inhabitants, about a dozen wolves, a couple of thousand moose and an occasional lone hiker. Alison Young, musician-turned-classical-radio-host-turned-hiker is among the latter, and she’s produced a podcast about her adventures on the island that she shares with “Simply Superior” host Robin Washington. Her island treks are among 12,000 miles of hikes she’s done across six continents.

Plus, Margi Preus has long dominated the local authors section of Twin Ports booksellers and frequently shows up in The New York Times book section. The Newbery Honor winner joins Washington to read from her latest books for young readers, “Windswept” and “Lily Leads the Way.”
