Simply Superior highlights music of the season from Christian and Jewish traditions. Host Robin Washington speaks first with Erin Aldridge about UW-Superior’s 22nd annual Season of Song concert, which is directed by Aldridge and Michael Fuchs. The program also shares selections from the seasonal concert that was held earlier this month.

Also, Rabbi Mendy Ross, director of Chabad of Duluth joins Washington for a discussion about Hanukkah, what it is (and isn’t) and how it is celebrated. Raised in New Jersey, Rabbi Mendy Ross grew up in a family that was very active in their local Jewish community. He studied Jewish law and Chassidic philosophy at Central Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim Lubavitch in Brooklyn, New York, where he was ordained in 2015. Washington talks with Rabbi Mendy about living and serving the Jewish community in the Twin Ports with his wife and three children.

When you think of traditional music of Hanukkah, it’s not likely you imagine the jazzy sounds of the big band era, but that is exactly what you get from Eyal Vilner’s Big Band. Washington rounds out the program with selections from this unique artist.
