Heard On Simply Superior

An archipelago along the south shore of Lake Superior known as The Apostle Islands was designated a national park in 1970. In celebration of that anniversary, a virtual symposium was recently held about the rich history, vast resources and diverse ecology of the islands. Hear excerpts from the presentations, and poetry about the Apostle Islands on this edition of “Simply Superior”

Host Robin Washington shares excerpts from the array of presenters, which covered everything from the survival of the islands’ celebrated bird species, the piping plover, to environmental education of fourth-graders and the underwater mountainous terrain beneath the big lake’s surface.

Also on this week’s show, poems about the Apostle Islands read by Bayfield’s Poet Laureate Lucy Tyrell and other poets.
