For writers, musicians and artists the challenge has been to remain connected to audiences. Host Robin Washington talks with the organizer of “Virtual Duluth,” an online venue that has attracted a large following in the wake of the current bans on social gatherings on this week’s edition of “Simply Superior” airing Friday, April 3 on 91.3 KUWS-FM/Superior and 90.9-WUWS-FM/Ashland. Matt Dressel, the Programming & Communications Manager at Zeitgeist Zinema 2, organized “Virtual Duluth” in response to the flood of cancellations faced by performers everywhere due to Covid-19. The online platform has hosted a plethora of otherwise canceled events in the Twin Ports in recent weeks, and Dressel shares some of the highlights with host Robin Washington. Also on this week’s show, historian and author Tony Dierckins (Lost Duluth and Crossing the Canal) will discuss his new title, “Duluth: An Urban Biography” (Minnesota Historical Society Press) with a particular focus on how the Twin Ports navigated the 1918 flu epidemic.
