For the 50th anniversary of Earth Day in 1970, host Robin Washington reaches back further to trace its roots in the 1963 visit by John F. Kennedy to the Apostle Islands with Sen. Gaylord Nelson on this week’s edition of “Simply Superior,” airing Friday, April 24 on 91.3 KUWS-FM/Superior and 90.9-WUWS-FM/Ashland. Also on this week’s show, the Twin Port’s preeminent folk singer, Sara Thomsen and her spouse Paula Pedersen share their music as part of our ongoing series of local performers shut in by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Excerpts of President Kennedy’s speech will be presented, as well as a conversation with Tia Nelson, the Senator’s daughter, about her father’s environmental legacy. Plus our regional news and Covid-19 update from the Star Tribune’s North Report Team and WPR reporter Danielle Kaeding.
