Shock waves were felt far beyond our area with the deaths of two local police officers in a shootout following a traffic stop with a driver on Saturday who also later died. Slain were Chetek Police Officer Emily Breidenbach, 32, a five-year law enforcement veteran, and Cameron Police Officer Hunter Scheel, 23, who had one year on the job. A vigil for both officers was planned for Wednesday evening in Cameron, highlights of which will be broadcast on “Simply Superior” at 10 a.m. Friday.

Also, the Twin Ports music scene was saddened by Monday’s unexpected death of singer Diona Johnson, who also performed as AfroGeode and Di Jay. Known for her powerful voice that ranged from hip-hop to choral, she was an uncompromising force for Black and women’s empowerment as expressed in a 2021 interview with “Simply Superior” host Robin Washington, to be rebroadcast on this week’s program.
