We’ll talk about the Menominee Place Names Map, which merges modern satellite imagery with the ancient Menominee language, and shows the original tribal names of cities, villages, lakes, streams and landforms in central Wisconsin. It is now on display at the UW-Stevens Point Museum of Natural History. Our guests will be museum director and archaeologist Ray Reser and map creator Mike Hoffman, one of the few people still alive who speaks the Menominee language. The map is a product of 30 years of research, and is the first project of its kind in Wisconsin.
