August 31 at 10 a.m., Wisconsin Public Radio’s Route 51 previews the first International Wisconsin Ginseng Festival, which takes place in Wausau the weekend of September 15 -17. Glen Moberg will discuss the event, the history and economic impact of ginseng in central Wisconsin with Kirk Baumann, President of Baumann Wisconsin Ginseng and a former member of the Ginseng Board of Wisconsin; Will Hsu, Vice President of Operations of Hsu’s Ginseng Enterprises of Wausau; and Lisa Berry, Sales Director of the Wausau/Central Wisconsin Convention and Visitors Bureau and organizer of the International Wisconsin Ginseng Festival. Marathon County is the center of the international ginseng industry. 95% of the ginseng root exported from the United States comes from Central Wisconsin.
