On April 5 at 10 a.m. Wisconsin Public Radio’s Route 51 welcomes former Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson and former UW-Madison Chancellor Donna Shalala, who are in Wausau to mark the 10th anniversary of the Wisconsin Institute for Public Policy and Service (WIPPS). Both Shalala and Thompson served as U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, Shalala under President Bill Clinton from 1993 to 2001, and Thompson under President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2004. Host Glen Moberg will ask Shalala and Thompson about their long careers in public service. Thompson was the longest serving Governor in Wisconsin history. Shalala is currently running for Congress in Florida. The program will also feature Eric Giordano, executive director of WIPPS, who will comment on the organization’s 10th anniversary celebration, which takes place Wednesday, April 4.
