Nov. 12, 2015: Surviving Members of World War Two’s Ghost Army

This Thursday, November 12th at 10 am, Wisconsin Public Radio’s Route 51 features two surviving members of World War Two’s legendary Ghost Army, and the historian who told their story. The Ghost Army was a top secret unit that used inflatable tanks, sound effects, fake radio broadcasts and illusion to deceive the Nazis on the battlefields of Europe.

Host Glen Moberg will interview John Jarvie, who served in the 603rd Camouflage Engineers, the visual deception arm of the Ghost Army; Gazo Nemeth, who served in the Signal Company Special, the radio deception arm of the Ghost Army; and historian and author Rick Beyer, who directed, produced and wrote the 2013 PBS documentary The Ghost Army.

Jarvie, Nemeth and Beyer are in central Wisconsin thanks to the school history program A Walk in Their Shoes. They will be appearing at the Edgar High School Auditorium the evening of November 10th , and at the UW Marathon County Center for Civic Engagement the evening of November 11th.
