WPR Reports: Uprooted

“WPR Reports: Uprooted” is a podcast that tells the story of Cuban refugees who settled in the La Crosse area. The refugees were among thousands evacuated off of Cuba during the Mariel Boatlift. The podcast, launched in 2022, is co-hosted by WPR’s Maureen McCollum and UW-La Crosse professor Omar Granados. “Uprooted” recently earned an Eric Sevareid award from the Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association.
