A repeat of an August show when we heard the story of Soldiers Grove, Wisconsin native Gene Moran. Educator-turned-author John Armbruster tells the harrowing story of Moran, a B-17 “Flying Fortress” gunner during WWII whose plane was shot down. Moran went down with the plan, falling some four miles. He survived the fall, was captured by the Germans, survived life as a prisoner of war, and returned home to Wisconsin. Gene Moran’s story is told in John Armbruster’s book, “Tailspin.”
