The Enduring Families Project uses dramatic monologues, short films and other means to bring to life the stories of Black people who lived in the La Crosse area in the second half of the 19th century. Denise Christy is the organization’s producer and co-founder. She and her team will be depicting several characters at a Black History Month presentation at the La Crosse Area Heritage Center on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m.

An important fiscal sponsor of the Enduring Families Project has been the La Crosse County Historical Society, which also runs the La Crosse Area Heritage Center. LCHS’s curator is Amy Vach.

Amy Vach and Denise Christy both speak with WPR’s Ezra Wall for this episode of “Newsmakers.”
