Iconic images of home supply an expectation that it’s a safe, warm refuge. That clashes with reality. In a new book of essays, women reveal their experiences in the home. The firsthand accounts challenge concepts of motherhood, landscape, and belonging. From the mundane to the brutal, disappointing to comforting, women across cultures illuminate what “home” means. Our guests edited the collection and contributed their own essays to “This is the Place: Women Writing About Home.”

How has your home shaped who you are? Is home a physical place, or is it an emotional space? Does it matter where it is geographically?
