The UW Board of Regents is set to vote Thursday on a controversial plan to merge two-year colleges with four-year institutions in the same geographic areas. UW System President Ray Cross proposed the plan last month, saying it was the best way to deal with declining enrollment, budget pressures and demographic shifts in the state. The restructuring plan has implications for UW Extension, including public broadcasting in Wisconsin. Cross wants the changes to take effect July 1. WPR’s Rich Kremer has been following the story and joins us to break down the details ahead of the vote.
What do you think of the proposal? How could it hurt – or help – higher education in Wisconsin? How do these changes affect your life or community? Email ideas@wpr.org, tweet us @wprmornings or post on the Ideas Network Facebook page.
