The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently revealed a nationwide analysis detailing that over 2 million people in the United States were infected with new instances of sexually transmitted disease such as chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis, in 2016 alone. Amongst the three, chlamydia was the most common disease reported with nearly 1.6 million cases. While last year’s reported cases of STDs were at a higher volume than ever before, health officials say STDs remain on the rise. Our guests explain why America is suffering from this “hidden epidemic,” how our public healthcare system could reverse this disturbing trend and how local communities can educate citizens to avoid it.
