Members of the Madison Savoyards, Artistic Director Kyle Knox and Stage Director Adam Shelton discuss their upcoming performances of Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss Jr. and perform excerpts from his operetta. This version of Die Fledermaus was “translated” by W.S. Gilbert. Performances start on Friday, July 20 with afternoon and evening performances in Music Hall on the UW-Madison campus.

In our studio, with pianist Steve Radke, we hear the introduction to the chambermaid Adele sung by soprano Michelle Buck. Then we hear a description of his home by Prince Orlofsky sung by Mezzo soprano Kirsten Larson. Finally soprano Erin Bryan plays the character Rosalinde who, pretending to be a Hungarian Countess, proves her ethnicity by singing a native Hungarian folksong – a Czardas.
