Madison to provide a guaranteed income to 155 families for one year

Former Stockton, California, Mayor Michael Tubbs launched in 2019 one of the country’s first guaranteed income programs with the help of private donations. More than 80 U.S. mayors have since committed to giving cash to low-income families with no restrictions on how they could spend it. Madison will soon select 155 low-income households to receive a guaranteed income of $500 a month for a year, no strings attached. Here to talk about the pilot project is the mayor of Madison and two advocates of universal basic income as a means to escape poverty.
