A geographic information system (GIS) is a computer system for capturing, storing, checking, and displaying data related to positions on Earth’s surface. GIS is becoming more pervasive as we rely on maps to do many things, from plotting our quickest route home to analyzing prices and volume at brick-and-mortar stores for marketing purposes. We look at the spread of this technology in our world and where it’s headed.
