With inflation woes continuing, budget-conscious parents might wonder how to teach their kids skills for stretching a dollar. “Simply Superior” host Robin Washington took the question literally last fall by visiting a dollar store with his 9-year-old twin grandchildren, giving each $6.25 (for five of the items now priced at $1.25) and the assignment of picking those of the best value. In an encore broadcast, he reviews the experiment with University of Wisconsin River Falls Professor Logan Kelly, who heads the school’s Center for Economic Education.

Also, singer-songwriter couple Rich Mattson and Germaine Gemberling used their shut-in time during the pandemic to create a wealth of tunes. With their Iron Range-based group the Northstars, they’re back on the road again, including at Superior’s Earth Rider Brewery on May 26. Their performance is previewed in an encore broadcast with Washington sharing their work.
