If Congress cuts public media funding, what will that mean for Wisconsin Public Radio and PBS Wisconsin?
President Donald Trump issued an executive order on May 1 directing the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) to end both direct and indirect federal funding for NPR and PBS.
Several news outlets have also reported that the White House is planning to ask Congress to claw back previously approved federal funding for public media, threatening PBS Wisconsin, Wisconsin Public Radio and the entire public media system. Taken together, these are two of the most serious threats our services have faced.

Please contact your local federal legislator by phone or email to let them know why you value public media and why they should support this essential federal funding.
It will only take a moment of your time and is the most powerful way to help protect public media. It really makes a difference. Make your voice heard before it’s too late!
What’s at Risk for Wisconsin
Without essential federal funding, life-saving emergency alerts, educational resources and PBS Kids programs for all Wisconsin families that prepare our children for school and provide valuable Wisconsin-focused learning materials for all learning environments, trusted local journalism and storytelling, and enriching cultural programs could be eliminated.
Federal Support Is Irreplaceable
Multiple studies, including a Government Accountability Office (GAO) report, have concluded that there is no viable substitute for federal funding. If lost, the impact would be devastating. The stakes are high.
Now is the time to take action to safeguard public media’s future.
It will take every supporter speaking up to protect the funding — only about $1.60 per person each year — that ensures public media remains available to everyone.
