Gov. Scott Walker won’t offer his opinion on President-elect Donald Trump’s pick of Steve Bannon to be his chief strategist in the White House.

Bannon is a former executive at Breitbart News who played a key role in Trump’s campaign. His appointment has been praised by white nationalists and the Ku Klux Klan.

Trump also picked Republican National Committee Chair Reince Priebus of Kenosha to be his chief of staff. Asked about the appointments, Walker praised Priebus but would not comment on Bannon.

“I don’t get to support or not support,” Walker told reporters Thursday in Kewaunee. “The president and others make those picks. What I’ve focused in on is Reince Priebus is chief of staff. He’s the top guy for the president. And I think he’s an excellent pick both for the president and the country.”

Other top Republicans have taken a similar tone, saying they don’t know enough about Bannon to form an opinion.
