Gov. Scott Walker will formally announce his campaign for president on July 13 in Waukesha.
While Walker had already indicated roughly when he would announce his presidential campaign, he had not yet hinted at where he would announce. Multiple published reports citing sources in the Walker campaign now say the governor will make his announcement in Waukesha.
Wispolitics reported it will be at the same convention center where the governor celebrated his recall election victory more than three years ago. Marquette University Pollster Charles Franklin said it’s the site of Walker’s greatest political triumph.

“As Waukesha recalls that great triumph and also as a source of strong Republican support, it makes a lot of sense to announce from there,” said Franklin.
Most of the other Republicans running for president have already formally jumped in the race, but Walker said for months he would wait until the state budget was done. The Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee is finishing its work on the budget Thursday, and the full Legislature could finish its work on the plan next week, though nothing is guaranteed.
The Associated Press reported that Walker was apparently filing the paperwork for a presidential run Thursday.
