Gov. Scott Walker says the state needs to follow up on training for Division of Motor Vehicles workers who issue free state ID cards for voting.

Last week, federal judge James Peterson ordered the state to submit a report on DMV workers and how well they’ve been following the state’s voter ID law. Peterson’s order came after allegations surfaced that some workers were giving out incorrect information.

The governor said his office was in touch with state officials as they drafted the report, and said it is key moving forward to make sure all DMV employees are on the same page.

“We now need to make sure, as we saw from the initial request from the judge, that every employee is operating in a uniform way and ensuring that they have the proper training and following through on that training,” Walker said Friday.

The governor also said the investigation unearthed some additional concerns with DMV practices. He says the state Department of Transportation is addressing those problems.
