Days after endorsing Sen. Ted Cruz in the Republican primary for president, Gov. Scott Walker says he wouldn’t accept a cabinet appointment should Cruz win the presidential election this fall.
“I think I could be of more help to Ted Cruz as president as a governor — helping lead, being a leader amongst governors, and helping him push reforms — as opposed to being a member of a cabinet,” Walker told reporters on Friday.
The governor pointed out he will serve in leadership of the Republican Governors Association next year.

Walker also referenced some advice he received from former Gov. Tommy Thompson: “Tommy Thompson told me many, many-a-time that his worst day as governor was still better than his best day in the cabinet,” he said.
Gov. Thompson served as U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services under President George W. Bush.
Walker also said a question about joining Sen. Cruz’s ticket as vice president was “pretty premature.”
“The bottom line is, I’m focused on being governor,” he said.
The governor will join Cruz for several campaign events around Wisconsin this weekend.
