The Democratic victor in Tuesday night’s 1st Congressional District primary, former Kenosha County Supervisor Rob Zerban, said that Republican incumbent U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan may be more concerned with personal political goals than the interests of his constituents.
Zerban was also Ryan’s opponent in the 2012 election, in which he lost by about 11 percentage points.
Zerban said voters deserve a candidate who is fully committed to the interests of people in the southern Wisconsin district.

“I think Paul Ryan does have personal ambitions, and he’s pursued those at the expense of the people here in the 1st Congressional District,” said Zerban. “There’s a lot of things that we need to fix, including our infrastructure here, and to do that we need some of the federal funding that we’re sending to Washington, D.C.”
Ryan’s campaign did not immediately respond to our request for comment, but in a statement last night the congressman said that he has put the interests of Wisconsinites first and will continue to do so.
