Democratic Minority Leader Jennifer Shilling. Tegan Wendland for WPR
The first partisan appointee to the state’s new Elections Commission has been announced: Attorney Ann Jacobs of Milwaukee has been selected by Democratic Senate Minority Leader Jennifer Shilling to serve on the panel.
“Ms. Jacobs is a highly qualified candidate with a depth of election knowledge and a long resume of professional accomplishments,” Shilling said in a prepared statement Wednesday night. “She is well-respected among her peers, and I trust that she will be a strong, fair and non-partisan voice for Wisconsin citizens on the Elections Commission.”

The commission, along with the new state Ethics Commission, will replace the Government Accountability Board, effective June 30. Both commissions will be primarily be made up of partisan appointees from legislative leaders and the governor. The GAB, in contrast, is made up of nonpartisan former judges.
Shilling’s announcement comes after Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald appointed state Republican Party Secretary Katie McCallum to the ethics commission earlier this week.
