More than 30 governors have publicly opposed welcoming Syrian refugees to their states in the days following the terror attacks in Paris. That includes Gov. Scott Walker, whose stance puts him at odds with many Wisconsin faith leaders.
On Monday, more than a dozen such leaders from around the state gathered in the Capitol rotunda to voice their disapproval of Walker’s position.
Pastor Marcio Sierra of Lighthouse Church in Madison said the refugee crisis shouldn’t be politicized.

“It’s not a Republican or an independent or a Democratic issue,” Sierra said. “It’s really an issue about the needs of human beings.”
While Walker has voiced his opposition, the power to accept or refuse refugees lies with the federal government. President Barack Obama has said the United States will take in 10,000 Syrian refugees next year.
Nearly 12 million people have fled Syria since 2011.
