A Wisconsin Department of Justice election monitor says voting has gone off without a hitch so far today in Dane County.

The state DOJ has 16 teams of election integrity monitors traveling the state Tuesday. They’re tasked with looking out for election law violations at polling places, including voter fraud or voter intimidation.

“We try to hit as many polling locations as we can, speak to as many chief inspectors as we can and just monitor for problems,” said Assistant Attorney General Laura McFarlane, one of the DOJ monitors. “We’re also available if any problems do arise.”

By early afternoon, McFarlane and a team member had visited seven sites in Madison and Sun Prairie.

“We’ve noticed that things are going really smoothly,” McFarlane said. “We’ve heard reports of longer lines this morning, but they cleared up rather quickly, and other than that we have not noticed any problems.”

The state DOJ‘s election monitoring program launched in 2004. Anyone who notices problems at polling places can contact the state Elections Commission at 1-866-VOTE-WIS.
