Scott Anderson

Scott Anderson is a contributing writer for the New York Times Magazine. He is the author, most recently, of Lawrence in Arabia: War, Deceit, Imperial Folly and the Making of the Modern Middle East, which was shortlisted for the National Book Critics Circle Award. The New York Times literary critic Janet Maslin called it ‘‘superbly fine-tuned’’ and an ‘‘original, illuminating history that requires and rewards close attention.’’ Anderson was raised in East Asia and attended the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. In his 33 years as a war correspondent, he has covered conflicts in Chechnya, Egypt, Israel, Lebanon, Northern Ireland, Sri Lanka and Sudan. He and Pellegrin have been collaborating for the magazine since 1999.
