Samuel G. Freedman is journalism professor at Columbia University who has been a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award. His book, “Into the Bright Sunshine: Young Hubert Humphrey and the Fight for Civil Rights,” was published by Oxford University Press in June. He is a UW-Madison graduate.
