Julia L. Mayer

Julia L. Mayer, Psy.D., and Barry J. Jacobs, Psy.D., are psychologists who have been married for thirty years. Both have been practicing with individuals and couples for nearly thirty years. They co-authored AARP Meditations for Caregivers: Practical, Emotional, and Spiritual Support for You and Your Family and have written articles for WebMD and Health Central together. They travel the country and beyond, giving talks on positive caregiving, and they have been on many radio shows and podcasts. They have two grown children. Julia has a private practice for individual and marital therapy in Media, Pennsylvania, specializing in working with women who have histories of troubled marriages and sexual trauma and with caregivers. She cohosts the podcast Shrinks on Third, about psychology and social justice. She spent more than twenty years consulting to agencies that house people with chronic mental illness. She held adjunct faculty appointments at the Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology of Widener University and was an instructor for the master’s program in creative arts therapy at Hahnemann University. Julia serves as past president of the board of directors for PSCP: The Psychology Network. Prior to becoming a psychologist, Julia wrote plays and interned as an assistant to the director for a theater company in New York. Her novel, A Fleeting State of Mind, was published in 2014.
