Dr. Margaret Turnbull

Dr. Margaret Turnbull is an astrobiologist whose expertise is in identifying star and planetary systems that may be capable of supporting life as we know it. She developed a Catalog of Habitable Stellar Systems for use in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI) and she has studied the spectrum of the Earth to identify telltale signatures of life. For the last two years she worked with NASA to develop a new “starshade” concept for finding Earth-like worlds amongst the nearest stars, and now she is helping to develop the exoplanet program for NASA’s WFIRST mission. When not thinking about life on other worlds, she can be found keeping honeybees, tapping sugar maples, and hunting for morels in the north woods of planet Earth.
