Dr. Sarto has dedicated her life to opening access to women’s health care. She has served on the the Institute of Medicine Board on Health Sciences Policy and the Committee on Understanding and Eliminating Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Health Care, the Committee on Lesbian Health Research Priorities, and the Committee on Research Capabilities of Academic Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
She was the first female president of the century-old American Gynecological and Obstetrical Society’s history. She was also instrumental in the development of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Research on Women’s Health.
