Donathan Brown

Donathan L. Brown is Associate Professor, a 2017 Fulbright Scholar, Chair of the Ithaca College Diversity Scholars Program and Degree Coordinator for the Culture and Communication program.

In addition, he is the Immediate Past Editor of the Journal of Race and Policy, and has authored and edited four recent books, including:Contemporary Issues for People of Color: Surviving and Thriving in the U.S. Today (2016); Voting Rights Under Fire: The Continuing Struggle for People of Color (2015), & When Race and Policy Collide: Contemporary Immigration Debates (2014). Coming in late Fall of 2017, Dr. Brown will release, Dream and Legacy: Dr. Martin Luther King in the Post-Civil Rights Era.

Brown conducts research at the intersection of race, rhetoric and public policy, particularly pertaining to African Americans and Latinos. Dr. Brown has made various media appearances via television on the set of the Emmy awarding winning news talk show, Fresh Outlook (clips of his segments can be found here and online). In print, via the Christian Science Monitor, the Huffington Post and La OpiniĆ³n, along with various radio appearances.

Brown has presented research and delivered addresses around the world in conjunction with many universities and academic organizations. Dr. Brown has spoken at the Tshwane University of Technology (Pretoria, South Africa), National University of Ireland (Galway), University of Innsbruck (Austria), University of Ghent (Belgium), Jagiellonian University (Krakow), College of the Bahamas (Nassau), University of Maribor (Slovenia) and at other academic organizations in the United States, Latin America, India, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Canada and Thailand.
